The visiting high-level delegation from the University of Prishtina consisted of Prof. Dr. Bajram Berisha, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Scientific Research, and several deans and professors of the University of Prishtina as well as the newly appointed KIKT Center manager. The delegation had the opportunity to discuss the structure of the doctoral school and PhD programs at Ghent University, to visit the laboratories of Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Experimental Surgery and Molecular Biology, and to get to know the research activities of Ghent University. Furthermore, Rector Prof. P. Van Cauwenberge received the Kosovar delegation to discuss existing cooperation projects and to elaborate on possible future joint projects.

The project KIKT started in January 2010 and aims at improving the conditions for the development of professional research capacities and PhD study programs at the Faculties of Medical and Natural Sciences. In the upcoming phase of the project major efforts will be made regarding the definition of an interdisciplinary PhD, research, innovation and training strategy.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Prof. Jan Phillipé from Ghent University for hosting this study visit and for his invaluable help in bringing together all relevant stakeholders from Ghent University. All colleagues involved made this study visit a very fruitful stay and provided the delegation from Kosovo with new ideas.
