BCC08* Kosova Case Challenge held during 10th and 11th of May
Prishtina. In the course of 12 sub competitions planned to be held around SEE and Austria the dates 10th and 11th of May were reserved for Kosova Case Challenge 2008.
The Opening Ceremony was held on 9th of May at Grand Hotel Prishtina and the key note speakers were: Andreas Fritz, Austrian Development Cooperation; Liam Coughlan, European Agency for Reconstruction; Ekrem Hyseni, German Technical Cooperation; Jasmin Moser, WUS Austria Head Office Graz and But Dedaj, WUS Austria Office Prishtina.
All the parts of the project: trainings, competition and “Recruitment Night” were held at the “American University in Kosovo” in Prishtina. Trainings were conducted by the following trainers:
- Presentation Skills – Luan Dalipi, Management & Development Associates (MDA)
- Career Coaching – Ardian Jashari, MDA
- Business Case Competition Training – Liam Coughlan, Team Leader of a project funded by the European Agency for Reconstruction
- Information Communication Technology Case Competition – Kushtrim Xhakli, IPKO Institute
- Law Moot Court Case – Arianit Osmani and Kushtrim Tolaj, ABA Rule of Law Initiative
- Model European Council – Lulzim Peci and Ilir Deda, KIPRED
42 top students of Higher Education in Kosovo competed individually for the following four disciplines: "PTK Business Case Competition", "GTZ Information Communication Technology Case Competition", "Law Moot Court Case" and "Model European Council".
The topic for the PTK Business Case Competition is related to the Privatization of the PTK, which actually is considered one of the most current issues of the business environment of Kosovo. It is financed by the PTK and created from: Visar Krasniqi and But Dedaj. The second competing discipline was the GTZ Information Communication Technology Case Competition (financed by GTZ) and the case has to do with Kosova Tourism Association. In order to improve the quality of its services to its members and tourists interested to travel to Kosovo for business or pleasure, KOTAS is considering redesigning its current web site by adding a reservation portal that will serve all KOTAS members, providing easy access to all hotels, restaurants, travel agencies for the purpose of booking available capacities. Students of ICT have been assigned to develop a hardware, software and communication solution that will enable booking of hotel facilities of KOTAS members through a web application linked through the KOTAS web site. The third competing discipline is Model European Council (MEC), introduced for the first time within the project. The 13 EU members of European Council were represented by 13 students and discussed about EU enlargement. The case was created by Faris Hadrovic. And the fourth competing discipline is Law Moot Court Case Competition (LMC) where students have been assigned a fictitious case to be solved at the International Court of Justice. MEC and LMC are financed by EAR. Case for the LMC is created by Thomas Skouteris, Professor of Leiden University in the Netherlands.
The “Recruitment Night” was presented for the first time in Kosova within the project BCC08* Kosova Case Challenge and was held after the Closing Ceremony. The organizations and companies present during the “Recruitment Night” are the following: Management Development Associates, Raiffeisen Bank in Kosovo, OMBUDSPERSON Institution in Kosovo, Kosovo Law Centre and Kosovar Institute for Policy Research and Development.
We have contracted 8 internships prior to the event and this doesn’t represent the definite number of recruited participants. This number can be higher by considering the fact of direct contact of the companies with participants and also that the total number of companies that have access on the students’ data is 10.
