Hybrid Event „Improving life skills of young mothers in the slums of Nairobi”
Nairobi/Kenia and Austria. More than 30 professionals from Kenia and Austria got connected in a hybrid event (at a local hotel in Nairobi and online) on December 7, 2022, which provided important insights about young mothers in the slums of Nairobi, and lively discussions on how to improve their life (skills).
During the event, the study "Young mothers in the slums of Nairobi" and a manual for social workers on the referral pathways on how to handle cases of teenage mothers in the slums of Nairobi were launched. The manual focusses on the situation in Nairobi. The five principles the manual is based on, namely social justice, service, dignity & worth, integrity & confidentiality, and the importance of human relations are, however, universal.
The event was organized in the framework of the project “Improving life skills of young mothers in the slums of Nairobi”, funded by Fair Styria and implemented by the Slum Child Foundation in partnership with World University Service Austria (WUS Austria). Main activities include an analysis of the situation in Korogocho, trainings of social workers in Nairobi and teaching life skills to young mothers from the slums.
