Dissemination Conference Tbilisi, Georgia from 2nd to 6th April 2019
CULTURWB: Future perspectives in cultural tourism. In the frame of interproject-coaching, partners of the CulturWB project from the Western Balkan region (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro), the Netherlands, Austria and Germany met in Georgia to present the newest research results and to promote the master program in tourism and cultural heritage at the final conference of the Erasmus + project HERiTAG. The conference took place at the technical university Georgia. Speakers reported on the preservation of cultural heritage in Georgia and on the latest mobile positioning data in Georgian Tourism Statistics. Participants of the conference were discussing the impact of climate change on tourism and adaption measures and how to combine a desired increase in tourist movements with climate change goals. In a nutshell, there will be shorter winter seasons and longer summer seasons. Also, the topic of over-tourism was subject of discussion, like quotas in Dubrovnik. Often, tourism is shown as the solution for everything! Especially in transition countries, where economic problems have priority, then come nature and ecological problems. But successful tourism might also pose problems. Hence megatrends in tourism are sustainability and virtual spaces. In this regard digitalisation is an additional chance for tourism and for tourist destinations. Will you join us?
