UN Eco-Building Meeting with Local Engineers and UK Consulting Company
Podgorica. On the 1st of October, a meeting took place in the local UN offices regarding the construction of the new UN Headquarters, built on ECO standards. This was the third meeting of the ad-hoc meeting group, however, for the first time the newly appointed UK company “King Shaw” and selected local engineers were also present.
The meeting started with presentations of the planned building,
possible solutions on low energy and sustainable architecture, aimed at
giving participants some general information on new possibilities in
ecological architecture.
Mr. Nebojsa Djuranovic, local project
coordinator, was chairing this highly productive meeting about
technical issues. The local engineers received detailed instructions
regarding further steps in project development.
The UN ended the tendering procedure by employing 15 local
engineers from various fields of expertise (protection at work, fire
protection, building process, plums, electricity, etc.) and also hired
one consulting company from the UK, “King Shaw”, whose representative
Mr. Doug King (who is also founding partner of King Shaw) was there to
present some of the projects his company realized all over the world.
The construction of this extremely important Headquarters is
an excellent opportunity for local architects and engineers to learn
new techniques in this field. Participants agreed that this building
will be a turning point in Montenegrin architecture that future
projects will look upon.
More good news could be received from the Austrian
Coordination Office in Podgorica, Mr. Gerhard Schaumberger, who
announced that additional funds, 2.000 EUR, will be made available for
a geological study of the construction site. These funds will speed up
the necessary processes in this project phase.
Also at this meeting, discussions were led about the
temporary office for the local engineers. WUS–Austria offered to use
the premises of the WUS–Austria Podgorica office, located at the
University of Montenegro.
