Workshop to prepare for the third Children's University in BiH
Banja Luka. On Monday, 14th April, WUS Austria organized a training workshop for the staff of University of Banja Luka. The training was a start of preparations for the implementation of the third Children’s University in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The training was held by Silvia Prock, head of Junge Uni Innsbruck and WUS Austria staff.
The training aimed to give an understanding about the concept of the Chidlren's University in BiH and about the CU movement in Europe which is integrated in the European Children's Universities Network (www.eucu.net). Furthermore, the training provided an opportunity to explore the benefits of implementing actions with and for children, emphasizing the importance of higher education institutions in BiH to get in touch with their future students. Through this project many children experience their first encounter with the university and learn more about their future educational choices.
WUS Austria has succesfully implemented two phases of the CU in BiH at the University of Sarajevo and the University of Mostar, in 2011 and 2013. The third phase will be implemented at University of Banja Luka in October 2014. This year professors from five organizational units will be teachin at the CU in Banja Luka: Academy of Arts, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and Faculty of Physical Education and Sport. These units will be hosts for about 100 pupils and teachers from nine elementary schools and will present them their work through presentations adjusted for the age 10 – 12.
The Children’s University in BiH aims to increase the interest in science, research and technology from a very young age and to engage children in exciting, interactive, real-world learning experiences. This way the children develop academic talent and knowledge, creativity and personal growth, and they are encouraged to be curious and to think critically. The Children’s University in Bosnia and Herzegovina aims to provide an educational experience for children ages 10-12 and regardless of their social backgrounds or abilities.
