EQADE: Training on PhD Promotion Tools held in Heidelberg
Heidelberg. A training on PhD promotion tools entitled “Promoting PhD – Why? And How?” was held in Heidelberg on September 17 – 19, 2012. The workshop was hosted by the University of Heidelberg, as one of the leading research HEIs in Europe with numerous doctoral programs. The main topics covered at the workshop were: the importance of promotion and popularization of PhD programs, management of PhD education, quality in research, local vs. regional vs. international promotion, organization and management of fundraising etc. Furthermore, the workshop also served as a valuable opportunity to visit the centers of research at the Medical Faculty of the University of Heidelberg, as well as to discuss the current and upcoming project activities. The training was attended by representatives of 8 public BiH universities, WUS Austria, University of Palermo and University Dunare de Jos of Galati.
At the first day of the training, the participants had the opportunity not only to hear about the centers of research at the University of Heidelberg, but also to visit them. The tour of the research centers was organized by Dr. Roland Kehm.
The second day started off with a presentation on the management of PhD education at the Hartmut Hoffmann-Berling International Graduate School of Molecular and Cellular Biology, delivered by Dr. Rolf Lutz, followed by a presentation on the organization of research at the Medical Faculty of the University of Heidelberg, presented by the faculty Vice-Dean, Prof. Kirsch. On the second part of the day, the upcoming activity on the selection and procurement of equipment was discussed. The session was led by prof. Dejan Bokonjic.
The last day of the training started off with a presentation on Quality in Science, delivered by Prof. Sonntag. The main topic of the day was the forthcoming activity on university road-maps. Hence, the participants had the opportunity to gain insight into the PhD organizational structure of the University of Palermo, given by Prof. Massimo Attanasio, as well as that of the University Dunarea de Jos of Galati, presented by Prof. Luminita Moraru. Furthermore, the training participants had the opportunity to hear about the experience of the University of Zenica and University of Mostar in terms of doctoral education at the respective universities and how they are preparing for the mentioned upcoming activity.
