Training and the 3rd Consortium meeting held in Ghent, Belgium
Ghent. In the beautiful medieval town of Ghent the fifth project meeting and training was organized by the KaHo Sint-Lieven in their facilities. The meeting took place on the 12th and 13th of May 2011 and it gathered ca. 20 people including representatives of all project partners. (Agenda of the meeting is available here)
The project "COMPETENCE - Matching competences in higher education and economy: From competence catalogue to strategy and curriculum development" started in January 2009. It aims at improving the link between university education and the labor market by focusing on matching the competences acquired at universities and the ones demanded on the labor market. Project focuses on four partner Universities in West Balkan and it is based on the knowledge and experience transfer between them and the three EU partners.
The two-day project meeting in Ghent focused on the presentation of the results of the survey that was conducted at the faculties of all four involved SEE partner universities. During the workshops different models for the development of the recommendations for curricula adaptation based on the survey results were discussed as well as the specific issues and problems encountered by the partners.
This meeting was also used to discuss the best strategy for the internal dissemination of the project method and of the results, thus “teaching the teachers”. A specific tool was developed by the EU partners and it is available, together with all the other material, on the project’s homepage (www.link-competences.org).
During our stay in Ghent the hosts from KaHoSL organised a visit to the Volvo car factory which included the observation of the car production process. Moreover, the Competence expert from Volvo presented to the partners their methods of determining, monitoring and evaluating competences.
We are very grateful to our amazing hosts from KaHoSL, Ghent who have organised so well this meeting and have in addition made it possible for us to taste the typical and fantastic Flemish food, to have a guided tour through the city and most importantly who made us all certified “Belgium Beer Experts".
We are looking forward to the last phase of our project – in addition to the ongoing activities of dissemination and assurance of the project sustainability, the development of recommendations for the curricula adaptation as well as of the strategy for their implementation.
