Successful completion of the Quality Assurance Project at the University of Montenegro
Podgorica. The final ceremony which marked the
successful completion of the Quality Assurance Project at the University of Montenegro
was held on 11th November 2010 at the Rectorate building. The event was
attended by the Vice Rector for teaching, professor Andjelko Lojpur, who made
an introductory speech, vice deans for teaching and the quality assurance (QA) team
Following the welcoming speeches, presentations were given by the members of the QA team, with regard to the procedures governing student evaluation of the teaching process, analysis of the report on re-accreditation of the study programs at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, which was used as a model for the entire University in the previous period, and the presentation of the procedures for applying different teaching methodologies and collection of feedback from graduates and employers regarding their evaluation of the study programs.
So far the University of Montenegro did not have coherent forms and procedures for the implementation of internal quality assurance necessary for re-accreditation, which was enabled through this project. Trial student evaluation will be conducted at three faculties of the University of Montenegro: Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management and Faculty of Electrical Engineering in December 2010, whereas all other faculties should conduct their own student evaluations by the end of the summer semester 2011. The Guidelines also encompass the Handbook on Teaching and Learning methodologies, first of this kind published at the University of Montenegro, which will serve as a pedagogical tool, for the entire, especially younger, teaching staff. It should be noted that the Guidelines will be adapted after the development of the quality assurance strategy and policy at the University of Montenegro, which is currently underway and will be completed until June 2011. The most principal strategic determinants will be defined in the area of quality assurance implementation at the university.
The Quality Assurance project at the University of Montenegro was implemented by WUS Austria and funded by the Austrian Development Cooperation as a component of the program “Support to Higher Education in Montenegro 2007-2010”. It aimed at capacity building and the sustainable establishment of quality assurance centres at the university institutions in Montenegro as one of the key issues for institutional transitions to represent a modern universities. Training of the centre's staff members was realized and accompanied by an extensive awareness-raising campaign about the project among the entire academic staff and students.
